|
| One man's trash - Turned to one mans treasure! |
We wanted to say thank you for letting us make Sam a part of our family! We just adore him, and wonder how
anyone could bear to give him up. He is so cute playing with his little sister (our 5 ½ month old puppy). They love to wrestle
around, which can be quite entertaining because she is only about 40lbs and can walk right under him, but they are two peas
in a pod. He loves to climb up on the bed in the middle of the night and snuggle with us or sit in his Dads lap while were
watching TV. He is such a sweetheart and we are so glad we can give him a forever home with our family! Thanks so much for
your help! The Graves Family

MAX WAS ADOPTED!
His new mom writes:
Max is a doll! My son-in-law discovered that if
you scratch just beneath his chin - he kisses! I didn't even have to smear peanut butter on my face! Maybe you accidentally gave me a valuable show dog and not the Max you described
on the web site and over the phone? Well too late! He's my forever baby! We sincerely thank you.... as the tears are welling up (I'm at the office) I should
close...... I'll stay in touch! Bless
you all!!!

his owners were moving. Buddy is an adored family member now

It is getting to be our one year anniversary of having Hamlet. Thanks again for letting us adopt him.
Hamlet was one big confused fellow when he came into rescue. He now lives with a terrific couple who decided
they would rescue a Great Dane. They spend plenty of time with him, take him on walks and to fun classes, where we're told
he is a STAR PUPIL! His new owners tell us "..Everyone in class says Hamlet is 'the easiest dog of all to walk.'" What a great
testimony to his owners! As you can see, he also thinks he's a lap dog! Thanks, Pete and Vanessa.

Mosley is a 1 year old Brindle Male, Turned into rescue by breeder. I was sold by a breeder as a puppy. I was in a home with an older woman, she forgot to train
me, she thinks I am to energetic, so she had me on Rimadyl - to keep me calm. I am a typical 1 year old boy in need of some
training. MO WAS A HIT AT PETFEST! HE WAS THE DOG OF THE DAY! HE ADORED ALL THE ATTENTION AND PEOPLE AND OTHER DOGS! HE WAS
GREAT WITH KIDS! A TRUE EXAMPLE OF WHAT RESCUE AND A GREAT FOSTER HOME CAN DO WITH A NEGLECTED DANE!

Tallmage had a terrible skin condition when he came into rescue....his belly was completely bald and covered with an itchy, angry red rash that got
infected. His owners tried to help him, but just didn't have the resources for repeated visits to the veterinarian. IGDR was
happy to take him in...and after considerable expense, and several changes in food, we finally got him happy, healthy, and
his non-rashy belly now has fur on it. He spent over 6 months in rescue, but we knew his new owner would find him, and she
did, through Petfinder! His big-hearted adoptive mom knew of his special needs, and said he was the dog for her. Tallmage
now lives in a dog-friendly community, with another Great Dane and an owner who can take him to work with her. Here he is,
snuggling with Murphey, who incidentally is also a special-needs dog. Tallmage's new mom writes, "...Tallmage is doing great!
He and Murphey are so cute together! " Thanks, Jess!

Louie was barely a year old when his owners called us for help; they didn't have a fenced yard,
he was 'pooping in their house,' and they needed to give him up. We gladly took Louie in. His foster mom (thanks Krystan!)
worked with him (Krystan's Great Dane, Cleo, helped show him the ropes) and after a few short days, this eager-to-please boy
had perfect house manners. His new owner, who had lost a beloved 14 year old Great Dane was so excited to adopt him, he got
up at 3am to get to Idaho early. His first meeting with Louie was so warm and loving, it nearly brought two IGDR volunteers
to tears. Louie's new owner Wilbur writes...."Louie is doing well. Likes to play with the other dogs....reminds me of the
other Dane I had. He's really attached to me." Louie's story, thanks to former owners who were responsible enough to contact
rescue for help, and a generous person who chose to rescue, has a happy ending.

Hope our 72 pound Great Dane has been adopted!
We look forward to posting pictures as she gains weight. Hope is a loving Dane with so much life to give!

DUKE saved his owners life! and
Duke's microchip saved him!Idaho Great Dane Rescue adopted Duke to a single woman in 2002.
The Spokanimal Shelter called IGDR to come get the dog over the 4th of July weekend 2005. He had
been found as a stray at large, thanks to his AVID microchip, we were able to save him! For the next 48 hours IGDR tirelessly
searched for the owner. Duke's owner had fallen in her kitchen, she laid there unconscious for
2 and 1/2 days! Duke sat vigil at his owners side and cried. He left several bruises on her, from just trying to wake her
up. He had many accidents in the house. But in the end his cries were heard and his owner was found. They say she was
hours from death when she was found. Who knew a microchip could save the life of not only a dog,
but a human too!

Was it two years ago that I adopted "Lucy" now known as "Gretchen".
I thought you might be amused by a picture of her in her favorite resting place. There's nothing like warmth... Larry

Patches came from a sheep ranch, where she wasn't
getting along with the Great Pyrenees who worked there. Her owner called us, and with the help of some of our great volunteers,
Patches was transported to us. Sweet, playful Patches found her forever home through us....a wonderful couple with another
Great Dane and a park right across the street adopted her. She now has a great home, with a canine pal who 'speaks her language.'

Penny, once an unwanted trouble maker. Now she is one
adored and treasured pet and family member!

Tiergan came to rescue a very sad sight; he was painfully thin, and needed
a leg removed. In the end, many gave money, many gave support, many prayed for this dog and he was adopted! He lives
with two other dogs that have become his brothers. With his new wonderful life, he got a new name-- "Boomer." His new owner
writes, "...He almost seems to be smiling in one of the photos...I love this dog beyond measure. He has a heart of gold
and although he still tires easily, he tries to keep up with his other two brothers." His dedicated new owner drove a very
long distance to pick him up & bring him to his forever home. Boomer's story is a success--thanks to dozens of people
who came together to give him a second chance.

Roxy was 6-9 months old when she came to IGDR. Poor Roxy was found chained to a tree with a shock collar; some concerned people who knew about IGDR convinced her "owners"
to give her up, and brought her to us. Now, thanks to courageous rescuers who cared enough to get involved and bring her to
IGDR, and a loving adoptive family, she has a warm, clean home INSIDE with people who love her.

Lady was brought to IGDR by a kind good samaritan, who found her wandering. We spayed, vaccinated
and microchipped her, and found her a loving home, thanks to another great adoptive family.

Vanilla Bean now lives with her vet!
|
|
FRAYA - Fraya came to rescue, blind in one eye. That didn't stop her new owner from giving her
a great forever home! Here's what they have to say. "I'm really, really enjoying Fraya. She brightens up my day and always
makes me laugh. She has really helped my mourning over the loss of Cowboy. She has been absolutely perfect and so smart.
And gets along great with Taylor."

Darling, busy Annabelle was a stray who spent considerable time in foster care, probably because
black dogs are always the last to be adopted. We knew someone would fall in love; she just needed the right home! "Anna" now
lives with an active couple that take her with them when they go hiking, horseback riding, and to the beach. She likes it
when they have parties at the house, too, so she can meet all the guests. Annabelle is yet another IGDR success story, thanks
to a kind couple who wanted to rescue when they were looking for a great dog. Thanks, Kate & Len!

|
Zeus, is a loved baby in his home!
|
MIKEY was found beaten, abused, covered in glue,
and with owies all over! This poor fellow was a mess, but after a few weeks in rescue, a vet check, neuter etc, he was ready
to be adopted. Mike's wounds are still healing, but his trust in people hasn't been shaken, because his new parents love him
unconditionally! He now rides proudly INSIDE the extended cab of the pickup (on leather seats, no less!) with his new owners,
who take him to work with them.
|
Max was dumped at a shelter for being "too big". We got
some excellent help with this rescue from one of our western Washington volunteers, whose persistence resulted in a screened
adoptive home for Max. He is now an adored couch hog! Thank you, Nicole
|
Truman was found as a stray on the streets of Spokane.
He was happy to have a warm bed INSIDE at his foster home, and was adopted by a nice family with children (he loves kids!)
and another dog to play with. Truman's owner writes...."Truman has been a
great asset to our family. My kids love him, he is very clean and well mannered..... I will adopt from you in
the future." From an unwanted stray to a treasured, much-loved member of a family that includes him in Easter egg hunts, Truman
is another IGDR success, thanks to a generous person who looked to rescue first for their next family pet.

Mrs. Abby did not like farm animals, so IGDR found her a
new forever home as a city girl!
|
Sierra, turned into rescue for being "too HAPPY!" She accidentally swatted a child in the face
with her tail! She now lives in a home without young children.....problem solved! Thank you all for my beautiful Sierra--she's
just a lover. She loves to play tug-of-war, and cracks me up when she tries to run across the laminate floor and slides
through the living room. The two cats and my other dog know to stay out of the way if she wants to "rough house" in
the house. She's eating well--gained 16 lbs since I've had her. It's nice to not see her ribs and tail bone anymore.
Even the kids across the street love her. They come up and give her big hugs around her neck--they learned quickly that
her tail can be dangerous, lol. Thanks so much for all you do for these beautiful big lovers. Betsy

Hayden came to IGDR with severe separation anxiety. Her adopters
were told about her special needs, and decided they'd work with her. Looks like it paid off... Hayden's mom writes, "Just
a note to update you on Hayden. She is so awesome, we want to find a puppy or young male. Attached are a couple of pictures
of Hayden and her cat Cronus. She cannot figure out why Cronus has the nerve to sleep on her couch! LOL She recently 'adopted'
a litter of barn kittens too. If you come across a young boy, Hayden really would like company. She has lots of room for a
friend, with a couch of her own in our living room, her Daddy's work shop, and her Mommy's sewing room. We finally got
her over her separation anxiety problems, she is off medication after a move gave her a little relapse. She loves to go for
rides, be brushed (after wondering why the cats got brushed & she didn't), and play frisbee. She acts like a young dog,
even though she is 7 years old! I think a pup would really help her stay young. Thanks for such a great dog!"

Petunia - One of the Texas 12 rescued June 2001! Petunia's adopters write..."I just wanted to send you some pics of Petunia. I came
down from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to meet you and your rescue on Father's Day weekend 3 years ago. Well, Petunia is now 4,
going grey, but very happy & healthy and very spoiled by my daughter. We love Petunia very much; the first year was a
bit of a challenge at times, but she is worth every part of it. Petunia is very protective of my daughter and seems to think
I can handle myself lol, and does not protect me :-)....though I am sure if it came right down to it, she would. Petunia is
very smart and eager to please. She is obedient, beautiful and loyal. Loves all people and thinks at the 'off leash' parks
in the city that every person wants to meet her.

Dainty Tylee, a 3 year old fawn female, was turned into rescue by her
owner. She had excellent manners, just wasn't fitting in with their busy household. She was quickly adopted, and went from
being someone's pet to someone's family member.

Caesar a 4 year old black, natural-eared
male. Caesar was ADOPTED to a loving, EXPERIENCED Dane owner!
His new owner writes..."Hi, Caesar traveled like a champ! No fuss,
quiet and easy to have in the car. He even barked when he needed to be let out. When he got home, I had planned to keep him
separate for a couple of days but my older female slipped by me. It was almost love at first sight. As that had gone so well,
I let out the younger female and they hit it off too. He is such a ladies' man. By evening Caesar had met my old boy
and they were all enjoying the sunshine and wrestling and playing around the pasture. Last night, Caesar asked to sleep on
the bed. It's like he has always been a part of the family here. I am so happy that he has come to join us. I will send along
some pictures in the next while." Thanks for everything! Jen Carter

Shorty came to IGDR when he was confiscated after his "owners" were arrested on drug charges. Some helpful folks with the corrections department assisted
in arranging his transport to North Idaho! Shorty's time in foster care was brief, as his wonderful new mom spotted him online
and fell in love immediately, filled out the application, and eagerly drove up to get him. He has a great life now with his
OWN couch, a canine buddy to play with, regular walks and plenty of good food and hugs.

When Apollo first arrived, he was in very sad shape.
Dirty, skinny, and exhausted from spending cold, wet nights outside with no shelter, it was enough to break any dog-lover's
heart. When his foster mom picked him up, he literally leapt into the car and onto the soft bed she had there for him, and
was asleep before she had traveled one block! After a bath, a few weeks of good chow and living indoors (where a Great Dane
belongs) with a warm, soft bed of his own, this gentle, friendly fellow was adopted by a part-time college professor. Apollo
-- now named "Smoke"--recently relocated to sunny Florida with his owner.

Remmington, this is one spoiled Dane!
|
Grace's owner's job changed, and she didn't want her beloved friend spending long hours alone at home. She contacted IGDR for help, and we were
glad to assist! Grace spent a few weeks in one of our foster homes, then was adopted by a wonderful couple with another dog
who needed a pal. Grace now takes fabulous beach vacations, romps in the backyard with her 'sister' and is very much loved
by her new owners. Thanks to a former owner who wanted the best for her dog, and some people who wanted to give a displaced
Great Dane a good home, Grace's story has a very happy ending.

Callie, a 1 year old Black female, was found chained to the gate at a city dump. She was skinny,
thirsty, and filthy. She now has a great new home."Hi," her new owner writes..."I
wanted to give you all an update on Callie; she is slowly gaining weight, and has the best personality. Callie loves
spending time laying on the couch with me during the afternoon, but has to be out when school gets out so she and her baby
sister (1 year old Lab) can greet the children getting off the school bus and walking home from school. Callie loves
playing with Grace (lab) and the kids in the neighborhood when they want to meet her. Although she and Grace each have
their own big beds, they prefer to share the couch, either with me on it or by themselves. Callie loves when my husband
is TDY(military term for away for anywhere from 1-8 weeks), because she gets to be on the bed. She loves the Schwans
man, and greets everyone with a happy bark and begs for attention. I will try and get a picture of her now to you all
soon as spring truly hits. Virginia Rector...happy mom to Callie

Apollo - 20 month, Black, Male. Turned in to rescue for being untrained
and somewhat out of control by his owners. ADOPTED! His new forever home loves him--they write: "Where to begin! He
is affectionately know as "OOOpollo" or "Apollo No". We love him! In the two short weeks he's been with us he
is gaining weight quickly. His eyes are bright and he keeps getting more and more personality (sometimes too much).
He is now the mascot at the treatment center I work and live at and thinks he owns the place. All of the kids and staff
love him equally and are absolutely fascinated by him. He loves everyone! Kudos to the foster homes he was in!
He does very well with basic obedience and does well on the leash. He gets lots of exercise being in the country.
We chase tennis balls in the park across the way at least a couple times a day and go for a long walk in the evening.
He has only stolen 3 Crispy Creme donuts off the counter and we now store all food on the refrigerator out of his reach.
He does have some chewing issues but I think I have removed everything tempting from his reach. He is quite spoiled
and has claimed the love seat as his own. There is no such thing as a private shower - he likes to stick his head around the
shower curtain and bite at the water! (At least I know he's not eating anything that way) He is like a child - if he doesn't
get a nap he is a live wire. That's when the destruction starts! We literally have to put him down for a nap because
he likes being involved in everything during the day avoiding sleep at all costs! Monday is his sleep catch up day and
likes seeing us go to work in the morning. When I come home to check on him a couple hours later, I have to force him
out of his crate to go outside! I can't believe what a find he was and that someone could ever neglect him. He
is a riot and has brightened our lives! Thank you to all of the rescue folks and the wonderful foster homes. I think
you might be getting some more people interested in the breed after seeing what a wonderful dog Apollo is! I will send
some pictures soon!" Thanks to people who looked to rescue first, and good foster care, Apollo now has the right forever home.
